Episode Summary[]
Steve discovers Chris is interested in Alison, he tells Chris she’s moving in with him and Sam. Hone interrupts them and when he leaves Chris expresses his dislike of Hone to Steve, calling him “holier than thou”.
Later, Chris and Hone treat a belligerent patient, Bill, who just wants his medication, Hone insists on doing a thorough check up to Chris’s annoyance, who leaves. BIll ends up running into reception with his clothes half off claiming Hone’s being too intimate in his check up. Chris takes over the examination. He runs into Hone later and says he hopes Hone didn’t take it the wrong way. Hone implies Chris doesn’t do his job properly and rushes patients out the door. He says he has his own standards and doesn’t appreciate being patronised in front of patients and staff.
Carrie has another go at Jaki in reception shortly before Stuart comes in and tells Marj he wants to drop out of school and marry Lisa. Stuart maintains he’s not the father, but that Lisa needs him. Marj tries to talk him out of it, but Stuart gets angry because he was just trying to do the right thing, like Tom told him to. Marj says her and Tom can look after the baby until Stuart’s out of school, implying the baby is his, which Stuart again vehemently denies. Stuart says he’ll think about it.
Later Marj goes to the maternity hospital to speak to Lisa. She introduces herself as Stuart’s mother. Lisa says she’s thinking about calling the baby Rebecca, which Marj says is her aunt’s name, and mumbles that there’s a family resemblance. They discuss the day Lisa gave birth and how well she knows Stuart. She says a while and that he’s been great. She didn’t expect him to lie and claim to be the father. Marj talks about what a good student Stuart is, and brings up Stuart’s plans to drop out of school and marry Lisa, Lisa is shocked. She assures Marj that Stuart is not the father, and she doesn’t plan on ruining his life.
Marj rushes back to reception to relieve Jaki who mentions Carrie has been rough on her again. Carrie interrupts behaving the way Jaki had just mentioned, and Jaki insolently does as she’s told, then calls Carrie a “miserable cow” to Marj. Tom talks to Marj about her visit to Lisa, they argue about what they’re going to do.
Stuart visits Lisa with flowers, she tells him there’s no obligation, he disagrees. Lisa tells him about Marj’s visit, and that his plan would be a mistake, but he still tries to convince her it would be best. He goes home and tells Tom at home that Lisa turned him down. Tom says he and Marj still have doubts about Stuart not being the father, and Stuart gives in saying he is before walking out.
Later, Carrie busts Jaki’s chops again, but Jaki has a valid excuse that Carrie sheepishly accepts before Jaki says “I’m sure you’ll find some other reason to jump on me from a great height”. Carrie says she’s doing her job and Jaki talks back. Carrie says Jaki needs an attitude adjustment. Marj and Jaki laugh about Carrie not taking being wrong well. Hone enters and says he hasn’t gotten along well with Carrie either, as well as Chris. He apologises for snapping at Jaki the previous day. She accepts his apology saying they should stick together, and that he shouldn’t worry about Chris because Hone’s not a woman.
Later they are dealing with a difficult patient, Deborah Walters. Carrie interrupts saying there’s an emergency Hone needs to attend to, he leaves Jaki to help the patient. Jaki accidentally pricks her finger with the patients used needle right before Carrie comes in and says to take extra care, because the patient is HIV positive.
Kirsty catches Alison looking for places to live and assumes the dinner last night went poorly, Alison says it was fun, but renting with the boys would be complicated, especially when telling her parents. However, she says she can’t afford anything else. Kirsty worries Alison won’t feel safe there because of “Sophie”. Kirsty says she was a girl who lived with the boys but disappeared and was never found, and implies one or both of them killed her.
Later, Gina talks to Alison in the staff room, offering to help her move in. Alison asks why she didn’t tell her about “Sophie”. Gina acts annoyed that Kirsty mentioned it, and says Sophie’s death was an accident, “at least I believe it was an accident”. Gina said it looked bad, mentioning “fights, threats, and the incident with the shovel”, and asks Alison not to tell anyone about it. Alison is mad Gina had been encouraging her to move in with the boys.
Later in the staff room Sam and Steve joke that the lock on their bathroom door is a problem for Alison moving in, because it works. They ask Alison about moving in when she walks in and she says she’s changed her mind. Steve thinks someone’s been in her ear. She admits to hearing stories, and asks about Sophie. The boys act shocked, Sam tells Steve “I told you it would come back to haunt us.” They tell her she better not tell anyone, that it “was an accident” and Sam accuses Steve “you killed her!”. Alison agrees to keep quiet.
Chris talks to Alison later, saying she’s stirred up the boys, referring to Sophie. She asks about her, why he is willing to cover it up, and if he knew her. Chris says yes, “I had her first but she was a messy bitch, so I passed her onto Sam.” Alison gets angry before Chris tells her Sophie was a dog Marj gave him from her dog’s litter. When Sam took it, Steve hated it and wanted it gone, and eventually accidentally ran it over, but Sam believed Steve did it on purpose. No one mentions it because it’s a sore point, and no one has told Marj either. Alison wonders to herself why Gina and Kirsty made such a big deal of it.
Alison catches up with the gang in reception later, saying she’s decided to move in. The boys celebrate, Gina and Kirsty look uncomfortable, and Alison says she can’t move in the night because she’s going out - with Chris.
