Jaki Manu is a fictional character on Shortland Street who first appeared in 1992. Portrayed by Nancy Brunning.
Biography[]
Jaki Manu was a nurse who worked at Shortland Street. Though initially frequently talked down to and reprimanded by charge nurse Carrie Burton, she eventually did further training and became a competent, well respected nurse.
Storylines[]
Jaki's first major storyline began at the end of Shortland Street's first week in Episode 0005, with a landmark storyline for the new soap. Jaki accidentally pricked herself with a needle from an HIV positive patient. After weeks of waiting and multiple tests, as well as discrimination from some staff and patients, Jaki eventually tested negative for HIV.
